Maccas, wine and (Ned) Flinders

12 March 2012

Day Four. 10-03-12

I get out of this crappy campsite as soon as possible and head to the first Mc Donalds the GPS can find. Not for brekky but for the free WiFi, as I absolutely have to fix the mess with Walkabout.be. For two days I’ve had no mail and the website is down. I guess the migration from Windows to Linux didn’t work as planned. One hour to fix the email, and we (with D0cStrange, my webmaster) hit a wall when it comes to move the databases. Michael I really need your help.

Back on the road, through the Barossa valley, famous for great wines such as Penfold’s or Jacob’s Creek. It really looks like Spain or Italy, with the vineyards shaded by palmtrees, very picturesque.

From the Barossa into the Clare valley, where the best “Alsace-like” wines are produced and I arrive at the foot of the Flinders Ranges. This is the gate to the desert, on the other side of this great wall, sand, drought and red ! Finally, the desert.

I camp on Hancock’s Lookout and the view is just breathtaking. It overlooks the whole valley, with the sunset on the river, my cold beer is just what I needed.

And geez, I need a bath.

Distance today : 530km, total 1733km.
