And then, there were four

6 July 2018

March 31st, seven o’clock. The sun is already up, and so is Brieuc. He’s his jolly usual self. Late mornings are not for him, or for us for that matter. We haven’t had a sleep-in for months, and I guess we’re not going to have one today either.
Claire is up, her belly is huge, as it’s been lately. Due date is not for another two weeks, but she looks like she’s about to burst any second now.
We’re all still in our PJ’s when Claire tells me “uh oh”.

First phone call to the midwife to let her know baby is on his/her way. Contractions are still a few minutes apart, no need to rush. Yet.
Second phone call to Seb and Claudia, who’ve been “on call” like so many of our friends. They happily agree to come and look after Brieuc while we, well, go and have a baby.

8AM, contractions are already less than a minute apart, it’s time to go, Claire can’t take it anymore. Quick in the car, everything was ready, kinda. Twenty minutes later, we get to the Birthing Centre in Subiaco. Familiar faces, familiar places, we know the drill. The midwife checks Claire up and wastes no time, the bath is already running. It’s a quiet day today, only two mums in the centre.
Only 40 minutes of pushing, breathing, sloshing around in the tub, and whoops, there goes Louis. Born at 11AM on March 31st. Twelve hours later and he would have been an April’s Fool. Phew.

Welcome my beautiful Son, we named you Louis, I hope you like it.

He’s beautiful, perfect. Claire is tired, but beautiful and perfect too.

After a short nap and an average lunch, we’re sent home.
Brieuc, meet Louis. Louis, meet your big brother Brieuc.

They bond instantly, Brieuc calls him Youwee and wants to hug him straight away.
