Cape Leveque

17 April 2012

April 10th.

6AM, a quick shower and we’re back at Gantheaume Point to try finding some dinosaur tracks which can only seen at low tide. Within 20minutes, it would have made an interesting photo : twenty or so tourists walking around at low tide on slippery rocks, looking for things on the ground…
After half an hour, we think we found one, and we exchange notes on our digital cameras with another couple.

Time to get out of here. A quick run at the supermarket to fill up the fridge and we’re on our way to the north tip of the Dampier Peninsula, just 300km north of Broome. At first, the bumpy drive on the sandy track makes Claire a bit nervous but she quickly relaxes with the beauty surrounding us.

We stop on our way at Beagle Bay, a small aboriginal community. They have built a church decorated solely with pearl oyster shells, the altar is built with shells, the floor pavement has mother pearls in it, even the walls are covered with shells.

Another 90minutes and we finally arrive at Kooljaman, at Cape Leveque. Just in time for sunset on the beach, with a much deserved cold beer.

April 11th

Late breakfast, late everything today. Reading, relaxing, enjoying the shaded area around the tent, then we spend the rest of the day at the beach. The water is crystal clear, the visibility is perfect, if only there were corals to see… Still, white sandy beach, perfect blue ocean, what could be better.
Tonight : kangaroo fillet, just the best.

Distance to-day: 235km, total: 10933km
