Day Nine. 14-03-12

Today is Thursday, more than a week ago I experienced the last drops of rain, today is still a beautiful day. The sun wakes me up again too early. I really need to tint these windows. (And no, no curtains, it’s ugly and I would look like a Dutch camper-van, no offense Josh:) ).

Day Eight. 14-03-12

Daylight saving wakes me up. We’re 45min behind , this is Central Time. I get to the WA-SA border and the Quarantine Officer has me thrown out all my fresh produces : half a kilo of carrots, a handful of beans, a lettuce, even the garlic and the onions. I eat the remaining apple and banana while the paperwork is processed. Welcome to Western Australia.
The Nullarbor Plains make a natural barrier for the fruit-fly so it’s forbidden to bring into WA any fresh product that may carry either the insect or its larvae. That includes honey, nuts, seashells, etc… Tough!

Day Seven. 13-03-12

Beautiful sunrise on the campground, over the airfield a helicopter takes off, most likely a couple of miners are on their way to work. It’s very common on these parts of Australia, miners meet their wives and kids at the nearest town and fly for the week to the mining site. The nice couple next to me offer to meet once I’m in Darwin, where they’re originally from. The man, Thor, from Norway, tells his stories of 4wding and both are still dreaming with the idea of a trip from South Africa to the Mediterranean shores. One day. We exchange our numbers and I’ll make sure to visit them in June.
