The past week certainly tested my patience. You’d expect when you’re wiring money from one account to another, even from overseas, that it shouldn’t take more than 48h. Realistically, it’s kinda like copying a file onto a USB stick, right ?
Wrong. Banks will debit your first account on the day you initiate the transfer, then sit on it for two days and suck interest out of it. Then they transfer to your second account, and the bank where that account lives will also sit on that sun for two more days. It’s only the fourth day that you’re credited. Minus the transfer fees and the exchange fees.

It’s not that Claire’s Hyundai Excel is bad or anything. But, a) it’s hers, b) she needs it to go to work (waitress at the moment, but sooner or later, geologist) and c) it’s not very reliable as it overheats in traffic and if we can avoid a blown head gasket, that kinda works for us. And since I will be in traffic for work, going from clients to clients, well I need a car.

Well I expected I’d find a job pretty quickly. But I had forgotten that there was Xsmas, then after there was New Year’s Day, then after there was Australia Day, and then it was school holiday. This meant that pretty much from mid-December until early February, Australia was hungover. I did manage to squeeze a couple of interviews but nothing really promising. Just head hunters who were happy to add me into their databases, and to keep busy in January while we all waited for the market to wake up from its lethargic state.
