I reckon the new tyres and the extra load have slightly increased the consumption. The standard 90L tank make it just over 500km when it used to be 600km, and the auxiliary tank is 120L, but then I could have sworn Pete and Jeff said it was 150L. So all things considered, I get about 1200-1400km autonomy, without the two 20L jerries. I also found if I stay below 110km/h I get a better mileage. So 105 it is !

Refuel at Elliston, and a quick detour by what I believe to be the oddest place for art structure I ever saw. A series of bizarre sculptures and statues on the cliff, spread over 10km overlooking the bay… Weird.
I make my way slowly to Point Labatt Conservation Park where I get to observe a colony of sea-lions. There’s about fifty of them, sunbathing or fighting on the shore. I can’t approach them of course, it’s a conservation park, besides, they’re fairly aggro towards human anyways, so the lookout thirty odd meters above them make for a nice viewpoint. I had never seen a sea lion before, they look mighty big !

It’s a dusty road to the next town, Streaky Bay, as the track from Point Labatt is unsealed and very rough. Anyways, Streaky Bay, nothing to see really. Off to Smoky Bay for a quick swim, I decide against camping here as the million horseflies drive me up the wall, so I end up in Ceduna, at the Airport Camping where the swimming pool and the Telstra Connexion make a huge difference 🙂

PS : and Walkabout is back online.

Distance today : 455km, total 2668km

12 March 2012.
